Global Residence Program

The Global Residence Program (GRP) offers non-Maltese persons the possibility of acquiring permanent

residence status in Malta without the need to spend any particular time physically residing in Malta. The GRP applicants may enjoy a privileged tax status and benefitting from Malta’s wide network of double-taxation treaties.

Main Requirements:

- Within 12 months from acquiring permanent residence status, applicant must prove that s/he has either purchased or rented a property in Malta:

a. Purchased property: not less than €275,000, or €220,000 if the property is in Gozo or in certain defined areas in the south of Malta; OR,

b. Rented property for not less than €9,600 p.a. in Malta or €8,750 p.a. if the property is in Gozo or in certain defined areas in the south of Malta)

- Pay minimum tax liability of €15,000 (No additional tax for spouse, children or dependents)

- Provide proof of independent and sufficient means

- Have medical insurance coverage for Malta and the EU

- Must not reside in any other jurisdiction for more than 183 days in one year

The GRP applies to Spouse and dependents, which include:

‐ Spouse or partner of a stable relationship

- Children under 18 years of age

‐ Children under 25 years if still financially dependent on the main applicant

‐ Children over 18 years still in care & custody because of grave illness / disability

‐ Dependent brothers, sisters and ascendants

‐ Employees considered dependent members of the household

The GRP holders also enjoy visa free travel within Schengen zone and has the right to conduct business, invest, and may take up employment in Malta.
